More Tea?

Do you ever feel like you're not being the most efficient with your creativity?
Hey everyone! Welcome back. If you're new here, I'm Catarina and I'm currently doing a Monday's challenge every week.
Week of 02/11 to 08/11
This week’s animation had to be about “Tea Time”.
This was a lot of a trial and error process. I didn't feel the most creative this week. If there's one thing I've learned, it's that you have to keep creating because even if you don't like the end result, you can always learn from the process.
Tuesday
Storyboard & Brainstorm
When I think of tea, I imagine a warm, inviting atmosphere.
As it's raining outside, I imagine myself reading a book and drinking a cup of tea.
Tea is like a warm hug in liquid form for me.
It wouldn't be a challenge if there weren't any limitations. Given the colour palette, it was very hard to come up with an idea, there weren't any warm colours to create a cosy environment.
After much thought, I decided to create a mysterious ambiance with a floating teapot that led into the river. This concept piqued my interest, it's something you wouldn't expect to see.
Some inspiration I found on Pinterest & Artstation:

Sketching & Establishing the idea
For the record, this was not a linear process, but to be honest no creative project really is. Sketching took far longer than anticipated. I began to have some distinct ideas. Here are a few examples:
I had an idea for a BD-style animation in which I would try to capture someone making and drinking tea. I did love the style and aesthetic of this idea.

Other idea consisted of a floating teacup and teapot where I could do potently a parallax effect
I feel like the more you see, with intent, the more inspired you get and the more ideas you have.
I can't quite figure out why I choose the idea I did, looking back they all look like achievable ideas.
Then I saw these pictures together and I connected the dots.
The concept was to begin with a 2D teacup illustration that, with a zoom in the tea fume, would transport us to this magical forest.
Sketching the teacup:

Drawing all assets
This was a trial and error process with the forest. This was one of the first approaches I tried:

There were too many things going on, and there was no clear path for the river or where the teapot was going to be. I wanted the teapot to be the focal point of the scene. So I tried once more:

Zoom In Paralax
I exported each layer individually and then animated the position in After Effects.
Final Thoughts

With this project, I learned that just because I have a clear idea in my head doesn't mean it's easy to represent.
On a final note, as always, check out what other animators and designers did at @mondayschallenge.
Let me know in the comments what's your favourite animation for this week's theme.
Stay tuned & Thank you for reading!
