Hey everyone! Welcome back. If you're new here, I'm Catarina and I'm back with a new Monday's challenge animation!
Week of 14/12 to 20/12
This week’s animation had to be about “Dream”.
I was completely overwhelmed by this one; the theme "Dream" seemed to me to be full of possibilities.
Tuesday
Storyboard & Brainstorm
As always, I started by searching for some inspiration.
Here's a collection of the ones I like the most:
I wanted to make a more magical/ fantasy scene, but the colour palette wasn't asking for that style of animation.
As a result, I came up with the idea of correlating dreams and stars.
I wanted to illustrate that: Like stars, you can't touch your dreams, because they are abstract feelings of your mind/subconscious. They are, however, the compass that always points you to a direction in your life.
Thursday
Drawing
I started by the second part surprisingly. I animated hands making a gesture to keep their dreams. The dreams were represented with small lights, like stars.

“I don't know anything with certainty, but seeing the stars makes me dream.”― Vincent Van Gogh
Shooting stars represent achieving one's own life goals, dreams, and desires.
What if we decided to keep them? What if our dreams didn't change?
What if we could keep the stars?
My first scene portrays a young woman sitting at a desk, being creative and lost in her own thoughts. In the second scene, we see her dream of keeping the stars.
Saturday
Putting scenes together
To make it cohesive, from the two scene I made it look like a vertical parallax. Like, we are following the stars up into to the sky.
Final Thoughts
I had a lot of fun making this animation; looking back, there was a lot I could have done differently, but I like how unexpected and abstract it turned out.
Thank you for coming along with me on this Monday's challenge journey! I don’t always know what’s good and what's going to fail. But that’s why it’s important to get things in front of others and see how they react.
Let me know in the comments what's your favourite animation for this week's theme.
Stay tuned & Thank you for reading!
