Hey everyone! Welcome back! If you're new here, I'm Catarina and I'm currently doing a Monday's challenge every week.
Week of 16/11 to 22/11
This week’s animation is about “Growing”.
Even though I had a clear idea in my head, I didn't have enough time to portrait it as well as I could. Because I had even less time this week, I decided to make something clever rather than something complex.

Storyboard & Brainstorm
I've noticed that this challenge has become easier with time; I no longer need to scroll for an hour on Pinterest to come up with an idea. That just goes to show that creativity can be a breeze at times and a nightmare at others.
My first step was to create a mind map of the ideas, and then I connected the dots.

The concept was to create a video about ideas. "Growing an Idea" refers to the beginning of the creative process. That idea was connected to another idea of a leaf/small plant that grows into a forest.

Sketching & After Effects
Here are some of the inspirations that led me into this idea:
A light bulb bloomed into a pencil, which then drew a triangle resembling a play button and transformed into an Instagram video.
The animated transition is animation's most powerful advantage over other forms of filmmaking.
Between two frames of animation, anything can happen. I attempted to make use of that.
You have a great idea, you put it into action, and then you release it into the world, where it will either succeed or fail. Sometimes the idea works, sometimes it doesn't, most of the time it falls by the wayside.

After Effects
For the sketching animation we use an effect called "Tapered Stroke" that allows me to animate where my lines start and end, to create that "write on" effect.
Final Thoughts
With the time I had, I didn't have high hopes for this animation, but it turned out better than I expected. With the next project, I'll be able to create something that is not only clever but also concise.
On a final note, as always, check out what other animators and designers did at @mondayschallenge.
Let me know in the comments what's your favourite animation for this week's theme.
Stay tuned & Thank you for reading!
